Eccentric millionaire and parlor game enthusiast, Clinton Greene (played by James Coburn), invites six of his friends for a week-long trip aboard his yacht. The only thing these six people have in common is they were all attending a party where a woman named Sheila was killed in a hit-and-run years prior. Clinton assigns each guest a piece of paper with gossip on it (such as “I am an alcoholic”) when they get on the boat. But what happens when one of the guests gets a card stating “I am hit-and-run killer?” The simple game becomes much much more when the guests realize that perhaps the gossip isn’t gossip at all.
I won’t spoil the rest because it is simply wonderful. I will say, however, that this classic “who-done-it?” goes in directions you would never expect. There is multiple layers of mystery hidden in this film. Including a photo in the first ten minutes of the movie that comes back as the solution to it all (the photo I used as the image for this review in fact).
Wonderful twists and turns all throughout this film. With a satisfying ending and some seriously wonderful tension. I watched this film because I recently watched Knives Out and Rian Johnson, the director, said in an interview that The Last of Sheila was his favorite “who-done-it?” I was NOT disappointed. I’m so glad that I watched this movie and it is an exemplary mystery. I really do not want to spoil anything in this film, so just go watch it. I promise it’ll be worth it. Great characters, interesting plot, and the whole movie sways in to something you would never expect. I loved it. I give The Last of Sheila a 3.5 out of 4. It is a wonderful film. Especially, if you ever wanted to see a puppet attempt to choke someone to death. This movie really has everything…
